ASFA Delegation at Capitol Hill Iftar

This Ramadan congressmen on Capitol Hill met with Shaykh Hisham Muhammad Kabbani, Chairman of As-Sunna Foundation of America and a delegation from the Foundation. Muhammad Khan of Muslim Networks and Riaz Surti were in the delegation from ASFA that attended the annual Capitol Hill Ramadan evening and iftar.

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (Calif. - R) was overjoyed to have Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, As-Sunna Foundation Chairman, as a guest in his office. The congressman had spoken in praise of Islam and Muslims during his address to the International Islamic Unity Conference in August of 1996.

A number of senators and congressmen and congresswomen were present at this event. Intended to introduce the politicos to Islam, its concepts, practices and its people, the iftar was very lively. Among them were Senators Spencer Abraham (Mi - R), Joseph Liberman (Cn - D), and Charles Robb (Va - D). Congresspersons present included David Bonier, Tom Davis (Va - R), Tim Johnson (SD - D), Dan Burton (In - R), Pat Danner (Mo - D), Lee Hamilton (In - D), Dennis Kucinich, Bill Luther (Mn - D), James Moran (Va -D), Connie Morella (Md -R), Bob Ney (Oh -R), John Oliver, Micheal Oxley (Oh - R), Nick Rahall (WV -D), Dana Rohrabacher, Adolphus Towns (NY - D)and James Traficant (Oh - D).

Shaykh Hisham met with many of the Senators and congresspersons, and was invited to pay a visit to Dana Rohrabacher's office. Representative Mr. Rohrabacher had been one of the guest speakers at the last International Islamic Unity Conference.

During his lecture at the Unity Conference, Mr. Rohrabacher praised Islam and Muslims of which he has experienced both firsthand. Mr. Rohrabacher was a powerful supporter of the mujahideen of Afghanistan during their struggle against the former Soviet Union and was instrumental in getting aid in the form of supplies and advanced weaponry delivered to them. In his talk, he had described his many adventures in the mountains of Afghanistan when he spent time in the ranks of the mujahideen in close battle with the Soviet Army.
